The screen locking feature of a Huawei Android smartphone protects it -- and the private information stored on it -- from unauthorized use, but you can still reset a locked device to factory settings and restore its functionality. If you know the Gmail address and password that was used to initialize the phone, you can use Google's Android Device Manager to erase and reset it. Without these credentials, you will have to use the phone's external softkeys to restore it to factory settings.
Google Android Device Manager
Google's Android Manager is able to find, lock and erase the Huawei smartphone through the use of locating features on most Huawei Android phones. Sign into the Web app using the Gmail address and password (link in Resources) and -- if there is more than one Android device registered to the account -- select the correct device name from the drop-down menu at the top. Click the 'Erase' option once the phone has been located by Google. This won't work unless you've registered the phone with Android Manager in the past.
Without the Google Credentials
Without Google account access, however, you'll need to reset the device using its external buttons. This procedure varies based on model, but typically involves simultaneously holding down a combination of buttons until the device enters Recovery Mode. Huawei's Valiant and Vitria models, for example, both require you to push the 'Volume Up' and the 'Power' keys for several seconds until an Android robot with a red error sign appears on the screen. At this point, you can navigate the recovery meny using the 'Volume Up,' 'Volume Down' and 'Power' buttons, and select the option to erase the device.

Many smartphone users use a PIN or password to add a layer of security to their phone, and Huawei P9 smartphone owners are no exception. Unfortunately, it’s very easy to forget your phone password. There are many solutions on the Internet to this problem that require the owner of the phone to complete a hard factory reset to regain access to their phone. Unfortunately a hard factory reset deletes all your files and data on the smartphone. That’s fine if you have a backup, but if you aren’t backed up, then a hard factory reset can undo all the work you put into customizing and optimizing your phone.
In this short tutorial, I will explain how to reset the password on your Huawei P9 when you are locked out, both by doing a hard reset and losing data and files, and without having to go to that extreme.
